GEON (the GEOsciences Network) announced that it will be holding its 3rd annual meeting May 5 and 6, 2005 at the Bahia Resort in San Diego, Calif. The conference will provide a forum for discussing current developments and further needs in the area of cyberinfrastructure for the geosciences. Featured keynote speakers include Larry Smarr from Cal-IT2, John Orcutt from the Scripps Institute of Oceanography and Greg van der Wink from Earthscope. In addition, research results from the GEON project as well as those from other members of the community will be presented.
Open to all who are interested in information technology based geoscience research and education, every participant is encouraged to submit an abstract. Speakers and posters will be selected from submitted abstracts. The registration and abstract deadline is April 11, and presenting authors will be notified by April 15, 2005.
GEON is an NSF-funded collaborative research project facilitating information integration and knowledge discovery in the geosciences and is led by the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC).
